Just before Christmas we heard about
a church in New Zealand which had gone from no children at
all to over 40 regular attenders in a single school-term. We
wrote a webpage about it and
Inspire Magazine told their readers about it too!

Friends and Heroes - a cartoon to excite the heart and spirit
“I love this cartoon,” says George, the SAT-7 Acquisitions Manager.
“And children who watch it will love it because it’s full of adventure.”
SAT-7 recently began broadcasting this wonderful animated series about Macky and Portia,
two young friends living in the first century who are caught up in a rebellion against
the Roman Empire. In the process of trying to survive they learn Bible stories.
The programmes were produced by Friends & Heroes Productions in the UK.
George adds, “Children and adults will love it not only because of the great stories,
but also because at the end of each episode you are left hanging in suspense,
wondering if the main characters will escape with their lives...”
SAT-7 KIDS broadcasts Friends and Heroes in Arabic and Farsi
in the Middle East.

"Friends and Heroes has
always been great value-for-money with two episodes per DVD;
but on this one you get three.
We wait to see what happens to Macky and Portia in Rome."
Andrew Wright - Five star review of DVD13

"Tami Adewunmi watched the (Friends and Heroes) DVD with
daughters Rebecca, seven, and Monique, four. The family
regularly attend a local church and the children are very
involved in Sunday school activities.
‘We found this DVD
very appropriate for us,’ said Tami, ‘The story line was
based on two sisters who had to learn to trust and
understand each other. The girls were so touched by it, that
when it had finished, they hugged and said sorry to one
another.’
Monique Adewunmi
said ‘It was very good. We really liked it and one of the
sisters was called Rebecca like my sister.’ Her sister
Rebecca added, ‘It showed Monique and me how to forgive like
in the Bible.’"

"My generation grew up with
Bible stories and now I find that my own children are not being taught these stories at all. What I’d like to think, however, is that non-Christians would watch this and get something from it; they may even then be interested in finding out more about the story – that would be fantastic."
"We’ve noticed that parents who are sick and tired of watching TV, seeing explosions and Kung Fu etc can suddenly watch an animated adventure which is fun and exciting but has also got a positive message from the Bible."
CJ What has excited you most about working on Friends and Heroes? AB
"It’s the joy of actually seeing the finished article out there in the market and on TV. Suddenly this character which has been inside your own head, comes to life and it’s just there and everyone can relate to it and appreciate it."
Alan Batson - Production Designer for Friends and Heroes talking to Clem Jackson

|
"What can I say that hasn't already been said about the excellent quality DVDs in this series? Friends and Heroes continues to be quite simply the best Christian children's film series I have seen."
Andrew Wright - Five star review |
|
|
"Grandchildren are far more demanding than the BBC, and
the DVD passed the test with flying colours... The animation
is lively and well-paced; the dialogue and story lines are
easily understood... No one has done it better for today's
children".
|
|
|
"Both the 2D and 3D styles are well done and the detail
given to both is incredible, making Friends and Heroes one
of the best animated Bible-based series yet.".
|
|
|
"...an excellent product well worth the price."
Andrew Wright - Five star review |

"The stories are engaging, with realistic characters and
exciting storylines ... ".

|
|
"...Friends and Heroes Productions Limited hit number
one in the US with their children's adventure series DVD."
|
|
|
"...the second series of Friends and Heroes is surely something to be anticipated.
These are fantastic products..." |
|
|
"...a high-quality product which will help children to learn from the stories of the Bible,
and the extras, including Macky's quizzes, are fun too." Andrew Wright - Five star review |
|
|
"Friends and Heroes is far from being a dangerous piece
of religious propaganda".
|
|
|
"Friends and Heroes is pitched specifically at
children. Macky and Portia are just a little older than this
target audience, and it's easy for children to relate to
them and be inspired by their exciting lives. They are brave
and resourceful, but they are not superheroes. Children can
aspire to be like them rather than simply be entertained by
them."
|
|
|
"The series has already gone down well overseas".
|
|
|
Matthew Page says "I'm encouraged that there are a number of lesser known
stories included as well as some of the classics".
|
|

A television series based on Bible stories for children has been scheduled for broadcast on

|
|
"Initial reactions in North America make it clear
that Friends and Heroes has the potential to be one of
the major animation productions of recent times"
